I’m tagging this one under “Travel” but these tips are straight from a local perspective! Having lived in Southern California for quite some time, I’m way familiar with Temecula. When you think of California, the picturesque beaches of Malibu or the bustling streets of Los Angeles might come to mind. And for good reason, those places are worth a visit too! However, nestled in the heart of Southern California is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, especially if you like wine. Temecula is known for its enchanting vineyards, outdoor adventures, and historic charm. Temecula, California is also known for being a great spot to host weddings due to its big open spaces and beautiful views of the mountains. The city offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the nearby big-city life. And, Temecula California is the hometown of global pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo! Read on to discover some of my favorite activities you can do when exploring the area. They happen to be my personal favorite things to do in Temecula, and 10 of the best things you can do in Temecula if you’re planning a trip:

1. Visit The Wineries

If wine is at all your thing, I recommend starting here. Temecula is famous for its wine, and it’s no surprise given its rolling vineyards and award-winning wineries. You’ll find enticing options at wineries like Wilson Creek Winery, Ponte Winery, and South Coast Winery. In addition to wine, the wineries offer fantastic food, breathtaking views, and a chance to slow down.

Wilson Creek is great when you’re looking for a younger vibe and hanging with friends, while South Coast gives has great luxury restaurants and Spas – as does Ponte.

2. Book A Hot Air Ballon Ride

Explore the skylines and float in a Hot Air Ballon Ride with a 360-degree view of the stunning scenery. Drifting gently above the vineyards at sunrise or sunset, you’ll witness breathtaking panoramic views that are nothing short of magical. You can book a variety of specialty rides like a breakfast, a dinner, or wine for two. It’s a truly unique and romantic experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

3. Wonder Around Downtown Temecula (Old Town)

Downtown Temecula has so many cute boutique shops and restaurants. I’m a coffee person and Le Coffee Shop has amazing french food, specialty coffee drinks, and french pastries while The Press Espresso has a great Honey Lavender Latte, Rose Vanilla Latte, and Mayan Mocha. (The Mayan Mocha is in the featured image of this post!)

PUBlic House has great burgers and beer, E.A.T. Marketplace offers super clean food and is a great place to check out if you have any dietary requirements, or follow a gluten free or paleo diet. Havana Kitchen offers the best cuban food, Espadin has great outdoor seating, a fun Taco Tuesday, and a fun Happy Hour.

Downtown Temecula also has a variety of unique shops like antique stores, clothing stores, and a a whole store dedicated to the love of the herb lavender called Temecula Lavender Co.

You can spend an afternoon exploring the boutiques, tasting local delicacies, and if you’re in town during a weekend you might even catch live music.

4. Lavender, Lavender, Lavender

It’s worth mentioning thrice. Because if you like lavender half as much as I do, ya gotta try something lavender before leaving town. E.A.T. Marketplace, The Press Espresso, Le Coffee Shop, and East Coffee all have a lavender latte worth trying.

And if you’re interested in making your own, the lavender store Temecula Lavender Co. sells a great lavender syrup. (As well as a bunch of other things like Lavender Salt, Lavender Pepper, Lavender Lotion, Lavender Spray – the works!)

If you’re in town during lavender season, Blue Barn Lavender Farm has a really special You-Pick Lavender Event. Fork & Plow Lavender Farm is a litter further away, but has a beautiful flower garden and different events throughout the year.

5. Go Horseback Riding

Explore the scenic beauty of Temecula from a different perspective – on horseback. Local stables offer guided horseback riding experiences, allowing you to connect with the serene countryside while enjoying the companionship of these majestic animals.

6. Go Olive Oil Tasting

There’s a few places to consider! Temecula Olive Company is a great one. The oils are spectacular and make great gifts.

8. Try Your Luck or Leisure at Pechanga Resort & Casino

Whether you’re a gaming enthusiast or just looking for some entertainment, this Temecula California resort offers a myriad of options. Beyond the casino, indulge in a spa day, practice your swing at the golf course, or savor a delicious meal at one of the resort’s top-notch restaurants.

7. Go For A Walk, And Maybe Visit a Dog Park

Good news if you’re traveling with pets. There are TWO dog parks in town – The Redhawk Community Park and Galleron Park. Just make sure you follow all rules and appropriately socialize your dog beforehand.

If you’re walking by yourself, Vail Lake and the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve offer hiking and biking trails, picnicking spots, and opportunities to connect with nature. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just seeking a leisurely stroll, these natural wonders are a breath of fresh air.

9. Look at the Stars

If you’re camping in Temecula, you’re in for a treat with the night sky. But even if you’re in town for a quick visit, don’t miss the chance to gaze up at the stars. To make the most of it, scout out a spot away from the city lights; places like Vail Lake or the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve are perfect for this. You’ll want to find a spot that’s free of light pollution for the best views. If you have binoculars or a telescope, bring them along – they’ll give you an even better view. And for all the stargazers out there, see if there are any local astronomy clubs or events happening during your stay; they often gather in prime stargazing locations and are eager to share their knowledge. So, whether you’re an amateur or a seasoned astronomer, Temecula has a beautiful canvas to explore the cosmos. 🌠🔭✨

Plus lots More!

While the activities mentioned above are some of my favorite highlights, Temecula has even more to offer. Explore the Old Town Farmers Market, dive into the local history at the Temecula Valley Museum, and experience the thrill of the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival if your visit aligns with the annual event.

Practical Tips for Your Temecula Adventure

  • Season Matters: Temecula’s mild climate makes it a year-round destination. But, spring and fall are particularly popular for wine tasting and outdoor activities.
  • Check Operating Hours: The operating hours of wineries, attractions, and restaurants may vary, so it’s a good idea to check in advance.
  • Transportation: If you plan on wine tasting, plan ahead for transportation.
  • Local Cuisine: Don’t forget to savor the local cuisine. Temecula boasts a vibrant culinary scene, with plenty of farm-to-table restaurants serving delicious dishes.

Temecula, California, is a destination where you can unwind, explore, and savor life’s simple pleasures. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply someone who appreciates the charm of a historic town, Temecula has something to offer. So, pack your bags, embark on a journey, and discover the warm glow of the mountains in Temecula, where wine and adventure await.
