Have you tried this health food yet?

This recipe features a beautifully vibrant pink fruit called “Dragon Fruit.” Let’s discuss.

A fruit by any other name… Dragon Fruit, also known as pitaya, is a visually stunning fruit with a wealth of health benefits:

  1. Antioxidant Richness: Packed with antioxidants, including vitamin C, dragon fruit helps shield your body from damaging free radicals. It helps build a strong immune system and youthful, radiant skin.
  2. Low-Calorie, High-Fiber Delight: For those watching their calorie intake, dragon fruit is a smart choice. It’s low in calories but rich in dietary fiber, promoting a sense of fullness and supporting digestive health.
  3. Abundance of B Vitamins: Dragon fruit offers a variety of B vitamins such as thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), and niacin (B3). These essential vitamins contribute to energy metabolism and help your body convert food into energy.
  4. Helps Digestion: The fruit contains prebiotics, which are non-digestible compounds that promote the growth and activity of beneficial gut bacteria. A balanced gut microbiome is essential for proper digestion and overall health. Also, dragon fruit’s abundance of flavonoids, a class of antioxidants, aids in repairing cell damage caused by oxidative stress and ultimately works to reduce inflammation.
  5. Natural Hydration: Due to its high water content, dragon fruit not only delights your taste buds but also keeps you wonderfully hydrated. A boon for those looking to maintain healthy, radiant skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of frozen dragon fruit (I use Sprout’s but go with any brand you fancy)
  • 1 Scoop of vanilla protein powder (I used Trader Joes)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
  • Hemp Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter
  • Coconut Shreds to taste
  • Additional Topping Ideas: Banana Slices, Goji Berries, Raisins

Recipe

This recipe is SO easy. LIKE SO SO EASY.

  1. Start by letting the dragon fruit cubes defrost. How long you’ll need to wait depends on the strength of your blender. If you’ve got something as strong as a Vita-Mix, you’re probably good to go.
  2. Once the dragon fruit is ready, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to your blender.
  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons of almond butter.
  4. Press the pulse button on your blender until the dragon fruit, protein powder, and vanilla are thoroughly mixed.
  5. Once you’ve have the base done, pour it into a bowl.
  6. Now it’s time to customize! Add your favorite toppings. Mine include coconut shreds, a sprinkle of hemp seeds, an extra tablespoon of almond butter, and a drizzle of honey
  7. Grab your spoon, cause that’s all it takes! This Dragon Fruit Bowl tastes so good, is filled with health benefits and makes a great post-workout treat. Enjoy!
